Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin in France on Monday 8 February 2027, subject to the Night of Doubt. All the dates: the last ten nights, the Night of Decree, Eid al-Fitr, fasting hours in Paris, and how to plan an Umrah in Ramadan.
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin in France on **Monday 8 February 2027**, with the first Tarawih prayer on the evening of Sunday 7 February. The official date will be confirmed on the Night of Doubt. If the crescent is not confirmed that evening, fasting will start on Tuesday 9 February. Here are all the dates you need to plan around: the last ten nights, the odd nights for Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree), Eid al-Fitr, fasting hours in France, and what to know if you want to perform Umrah in Ramadan.
When does Ramadan start in France in 2027?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why it moves earlier every year. In 2026 it began around 18 February; in 2027 it is expected around 8 February. The Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar and astronomical calculations place 1 Ramadan 1448 on Monday 8 February 2027. In France, the date is announced on the evening of 29 Sha'ban, most likely Sunday 7 February 2027, at the Night of Doubt held by Muslim bodies such as the Grande Mosquée de Paris. Depending on the year, French federations rely on sighting the crescent, on astronomical calculation, or on both, so some mosques occasionally start a day later. Keep both possible dates (8 or 9 February) in mind when you book time off.

How long are the fasts in France?
With Ramadan in the middle of winter, the fasts will be among the shortest in decades. In Paris, expect around 12 hours at the start of the month (Fajr at about 6:30am, Maghrib at about 6:10pm), rising to around 13 hours in early March. Marseille and Toulouse are similar; further north, in Lille or Strasbourg, times differ by a few minutes, so always use your mosque's timetable. The clocks change only on 28 March 2027, after Eid. In Makkah the fast lasts about 13 hours, with mild days of around 28 to 30°C.
Night of Decree 2027: which nights?
The Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) is better than a thousand months, and the Prophet ﷺ advised seeking it in the odd nights of the last ten. Islamic nights begin at sunset, so each odd night starts on the evening before. If Ramadan starts on Monday 8 February, the odd nights fall on the evenings of: - Saturday 27 February (21st night) - Monday 1 March (23rd night) - Wednesday 3 March (25th night) - Friday 5 March (27th night) - Sunday 7 March (29th night) If fasting starts on Tuesday 9 February, move each date one day later. Many hope for the 27th night, but scholars advise seeking it throughout the last ten nights.
Eid al-Fitr 2027 date
Eid al-Fitr will fall on Tuesday 9 March 2027 if the month has 29 days, or Wednesday 10 March 2027 if it has 30. The day is only known the evening before, so ask your employer for both days if you can. Remember Zakat al-Fitr, to be paid before the Eid prayer; French mosques publish the amount every year.
Umrah during Ramadan 1448: what to know
The Prophet ﷺ said that Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj (Bukhari and Muslim), so this is the most sought-after, and most expensive, period of the year. Start or end of the month? The last ten nights are the absolute peak: hotels close to Masjid al-Haram multiply their rates, and late-February flights from Paris, Lyon or Marseille sell out fast. The first twenty days are calmer and cheaper, with the same reward of Umrah in Ramadan. Winter school holidays. France's February 2027 school holidays fall during Ramadan for all three zones. Check your zone's dates: this is often the best option for families. Budget. Based on offers published in France in October 2026, a Ramadan Umrah usually costs €2,000 to €2,600 per person in a shared room, and more for the last ten nights or a Kaaba-view hotel. Nusuk permit. Every pilgrim must book an Umrah permit in the Nusuk app, and Rawdah slots in Madinah are in very high demand in Ramadan.
