Which hotels are inside the Makkah Clock Tower complex, how they differ, what a night really costs and how to choose between a Kaaba view, a Haram view and a better-value alternative a few minutes away.
For many pilgrims, staying in the Abraj Al Bait towers is the dream: you step out of the lift, cross the plaza and you are at the gates of Masjid al-Haram. But the complex is not one hotel. It is seven towers holding several different hotels, each with its own price level, room types and view. This guide explains what is inside the Makkah Clock Tower complex, how the hotels compare, what a night typically costs, and when a hotel a few minutes away is the smarter choice.
What is Abraj Al Bait?
Abraj Al Bait is the large complex directly opposite the King Abdulaziz Gate on the southern side of Masjid al-Haram. It is made up of seven towers: the Clock Royal Tower in the centre, plus the Hajar, Zamzam, Maqam, Qibla, Safa and Marwah towers. Below the hotels is a multi-storey shopping centre with a food court, supermarkets and prayer areas that fill with worshippers at peak times. At the top of the Clock Tower is the Clock Tower Museum, one of the most visited attractions in Makkah. For ideas, see our guide to gifts from Umrah.
Which hotels are in the Makkah Clock Tower complex?
The best-known hotels in the complex are listed below. All of them are within a short walk of the Haram plaza; the main differences are the tower they sit in, the share of rooms with a Kaaba or Haram view, and the level of service.
Fairmont Makkah Clock Royal Tower
The hotel inside the Clock Tower itself and the most famous address in Makkah. It offers a wide choice of Kaaba-view and Haram-view rooms and suites, and it shares the tower with the Clock Tower Museum. Expect premium prices, especially in Ramadan. See room options on our Fairmont Makkah Clock Royal Tower page.
Raffles Makkah Palace
An all-suite hotel known for butler service and quieter, more private spaces. It suits families and pilgrims who want the highest level of comfort. Details on our Raffles Makkah Palace page.
Swissôtel Makkah
A large five-star hotel popular with groups and families, with direct access to the shopping centre and the plaza. It is often slightly cheaper than the Fairmont for a similar location. Do not confuse it with Swissôtel Al Maqam, a separate hotel in the Maqam tower. View Swissôtel Makkah on Yuusr.
Pullman ZamZam Makkah
Located in the Zamzam tower, Pullman ZamZam is one of the most booked hotels in the complex because it balances location and price. Rooms facing the Haram sell out first. See Pullman ZamZam Makkah.
Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Hajar Tower and Al Marwa Rayhaan by Rotana
The Mövenpick in Hajar Tower is a large hotel with many room sizes, which makes it practical for bigger families. Al Marwa Rayhaan by Rotana is usually one of the more affordable ways to stay inside the complex, with a mix of city-view and Haram-view rooms.
Is Makkah Hotel & Towers the same as Abraj Al Bait?
No, and this causes a lot of confusion. Makkah Hotel & Towers (often searched as Makkah Towers) is a separate property run by the Makkah Construction and Development Company, facing the Haram plazas on Ibrahim Al Khalil Street. It is close to the Haram and well reviewed, but it is not part of the Clock Tower complex. If you are comparing offers, check the exact hotel name on your booking.
How much does a night in Abraj Al Bait cost?
Prices change daily and rise sharply in Ramadan, school holidays and the last ten nights. As a snapshot, these are the starting rates Google Hotels showed for a one-night stay on 21–22 October 2026, a quiet period of the year. Treat them as a guide to the relative price levels, not as a quote.

Kaaba view, Haram view or city view?
A Kaaba-view room lets you see the Kaaba itself from your window and is the most expensive category, often by a wide margin. A Haram-view room looks over the mosque and its plazas, but the Kaaba may be hidden. A city-view room has the same location and walking time at a much lower price. If you plan to pray every prayer inside the Haram, the view matters less than the floor and the lift: high floors can mean long waits at prayer times, when thousands of guests leave at once.
Better-value hotels near the Haram
If the Clock Tower is above your budget, the Jabal Omar district on the western side of the Haram offers newer five-star hotels a few minutes’ walk away, often at lower prices: for example Hilton Convention Jabal Omar, Jabal Omar Marriott and Address Jabal Omar. You can compare every option on our Makkah hotels page.
Tips for booking a Clock Tower hotel
Book Ramadan stays, and especially the last ten nights, months in advance; the best rooms are often gone by late autumn. Check whether breakfast or suhoor is included, because the food court gets very busy at night in Ramadan. If you travel with elderly parents, ask for a lower floor and a room near the lifts. Finally, booking your hotel as part of an Umrah package usually works out cheaper than booking the same room on its own in peak season, and it bundles flights and transfers from Jeddah or Madinah.
Frequently asked questions
How far are the Abraj Al Bait hotels from the Haram?
The towers stand directly on the southern plaza, so the walk from the hotel lobby to the Haram gates is only a few minutes. In practice the lift and the crowds at prayer times decide how long it takes.
What is inside the Makkah Clock Tower?
The Clock Royal Tower houses the Fairmont hotel, residences, prayer areas, part of the Abraj Al Bait shopping centre and, at the top, the Clock Tower Museum with its observation deck and exhibits on astronomy and timekeeping.
