How much does Umrah cost from Germany? We break down flights, visa, hotels, transport and daily costs, compare package prices on the German market in October 2026, and show where you can save, including for Ramadan 2027.
Ask ten people in Germany what Umrah costs and you will get ten different answers. Package adverts start at a few hundred euros deposit, Instagram posts promise all-inclusive trips, and very few sources explain what you are actually paying for. This guide breaks the cost of Umrah from Germany into its real parts: flights, visa, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, transport and daily spending. It then compares what German operators were charging in October 2026, so you can judge whether an offer is fair before you book.
These are guide ranges per person, based on offers from German operators and live hotel prices in October 2026. Your final price depends on dates, room sharing and distance to the Haram.
What German operators charge in 2026
Looking at the offers that rank on Google in Germany in October 2026, group trips of 10 to 13 days start at around €1,400 per person in off-peak months, autumn-holiday trips of about ten days sit between roughly €1,670 and €1,850, and winter Umrah programmes for December 2026 start at about €2,000. These prices usually assume three or four people sharing a room. A double room, a hotel right next to the Haram or Ramadan dates quickly push the total higher. Always check what is included: flights, visa, transfers between Makkah and Madinah, breakfast and a guide.
The cost of Umrah, item by item
1. Flights from Germany
Most pilgrims fly from Frankfurt, Berlin, Düsseldorf or Munich to Jeddah or Madinah, either direct or with one stop. Flights are the most seasonal part of the budget: fares in quiet months can be a fraction of those in Ramadan or the school holidays. Flying into Jeddah and out of Madinah (an open-jaw ticket) saves a long road transfer at the end of the trip. Compare departures on our pages for Frankfurt, Berlin and the rest of Germany. Our guide to the five miqat and entering ihram on a plane explains exactly when to make your intention.
2. Visa and Nusuk
German citizens can perform Umrah on the Saudi tourist e-Visa, applied for online on the official Visit Saudi portal. It is valid for a year with multiple entries and includes medical insurance; the official fee is set in Saudi riyals and usually works out at a little over €100, so check the live price before paying. The Umrah permit itself is booked free of charge in the Nusuk app. Agencies that handle the visa for you may charge a service fee on top. Budget a further amount for the mandatory ACWY meningitis vaccine, which must be given at least 10 days before arrival.
3. Hotels in Makkah and Madinah
Accommodation is the biggest variable. As a snapshot from October 2026, a night in a five-star Clock Tower hotel facing the Haram started at roughly €165 to €360 per room, while three- and four-star hotels a 10 to 15 minute walk away cost a fraction of that. Sharing a room with family brings the per-person cost down sharply. The closer you are to the Haram, the easier it is to pray every prayer in the mosque, which matters most for elderly travellers. Compare options on our Makkah hotels and Madinah hotels pages. Our guide to the Abraj Al Bait Clock Tower hotels compares every hotel in the complex.
4. Transport in Saudi Arabia
From Jeddah airport to Makkah you can take the Haramain high-speed train, a bus or a private transfer. The train also connects Makkah and Madinah in a little over two hours and is usually the most comfortable option, with economy and business classes. Private cars cost more but are door to door, which is convenient with luggage, children or elderly parents. Packages normally include these transfers, so compare like with like.
5. Food, ziyarat and everyday spending
Food near the Haram ranges from inexpensive local restaurants to hotel buffets. Add a small budget for local taxis, a ziyarat tour of the historic sites in Makkah and Madinah, a SIM card, laundry and gifts such as Zamzam water and dates. Many pilgrims set aside a daily amount per person and keep a reserve for charity. Our guide to ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah lists the historic sites to visit, in order. For ideas, see our guide to gifts from Umrah.
Package or do it yourself?
Organising everything yourself gives you full control and can be cheaper for experienced travellers in quiet months. A package usually wins in peak season, because operators buy hotel rooms and seats in bulk, and it removes the risk of a hotel or train being sold out. It also helps first-timers with the visa, Nusuk and the order of rites. Whatever you choose, ask for a written breakdown of what is included before paying a deposit. Our Umrah packages from Germany list every inclusion clearly, and our Umrah prices guide shows the difference between budget, standard and premium levels.
How to save on Umrah from Germany
Travel outside Ramadan and the school holidays: the same hotel can cost much less in quieter months. Book Ramadan 2027, which is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, as early as possible, ideally by November. Share a room with family, choose a well-reviewed hotel ten minutes from the Haram instead of one on the plaza, and take the Haramain train instead of a private car. Finally, compare total prices rather than deposits: a low deposit says nothing about the final bill. See our pages on Ramadan Umrah 2027 and Umrah in December. Our Umrah calendar for 2026 to 2027 shows the best windows month by month.
